Last night the much anticipated spin-off Fear the Walking Dead premiered and the series young male star, Nick Clark, is a drug-addled, paranoid, albeit entertaining mess. A far cry from the mother show's Carl Grimes, who has always shown grace under pressure and has grown to be quiet the warrior on the zomified FX series. Sixteen-year-old Chandler Riggs will no doubt continue to take down Walkers like his older compatriots when The Walking Dead returns on October 15 on AMC. Here are a few things you may not know about the actor. 1. He Started Acting at Age 4 As a young four-year-old boy in Atlanta, Riggs started doing community theater. Soon after he landed an agent and acted in a few films before being cast as Carl on The Walking Dead. 2. He Played a Zombie in His First Movie Ironically before playing a killer of the walking dead, Riggs was part of the zombie ensemble in a 2006 indie film called Jesus H. Zombie. But it was his next movie, Get Low starring Robert Duvall that really got the young actor noticed. 3. He's Already Been Nominated for an Award He was nominated for a 2012 Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Television Series — Lead Young Actor. Other actors in the category included Devan Cohen (The Yard), Will Jester (Debra), Matthew Knight (My Babysitter's a Vampire) and Daniel Lupetina (The Yard). But Dylan Everett (Wingin' It) and Jared Gilmore (Once Upon a Time) tied for the win. 4. He Is A Minecraft Maniac Riggs is a huge video game fan and is clearly a Minecraft maniac. He loves the game so much he has his own YouTube channel called The Orange Trampoline and he plays Minecraft with his friends and posts the video online for all his fans. 5. He Never Got His Late Night Dream In 2012, after his TV dad, Andrew Lincoln, appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman Riggs went on a Twitter campaign to get a late night gig. He tweeted, "@JayLenoTonight Hey guys! I play Carl on The Walking Dead and my 'Dad' was on Letterman last night and I would love to be on yours. Thanks!" He also made the same request of Jimmy Fallon. After making a similar plea during a Talking Dead appearance in March of this year, a petition started to get Chandler on The Tonight Show. With only 11 signatures to date, he still hasn’t made it out of primetime but he’s got time. Watch The Walking Dead when it returns to AMC on October 15 at 9 PM EST/PST.
