Spending time in a room with Iyanla Vanzant is like getting a big, warm hug with a tight squeeze from dear friend. It’s very comforting and it fills your soul. So we were thrilled to be invited to an event celebrating the start of Season 5 of her OWN series Iyanla: Fix My Life. We’ve been fans of the lifecoach since her days on Starting Over, the first daytime reality TV show, on which she helped a house full of women through various transitional stages of life. It was on starting over that we learned our favorite Iyanla quote — that we still use to this day — about headtripping, “Don’t go in their alone. You don’t want to go inside your head unsupervised.” At the event she spoke about her new show and the three-part season premiere which follows the stories of two pastors in Kentucky who came out to their parishioners. She spoke, as she often does, about the fact that the story wasn’t about whether or not these men were gay, it was about them living in their own truth, and breaking the cycle of lying. We got a sneak peak of the show and it’s not to be missed! We also walked away with three new quotes from Iyanla that we will carry forward into our daily lives. 1. “I’m okay with my crazy.” 2. ”Who I am, just as I am, is okay.” 3. ”I am gorgeous. It's not a look. It's who I am. I want to be real clear about that... I want to be gorgeous in my heart. I want to be gorgeous in my spirit. I want to be gorgeous in my mind." Tune in to Iyanla: Fix My Life my life on September 19 at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. Central on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
