Mary Poppins is coming back to TV for the first time in 13 years. A special presentation of the classic film, which garnered 13 Oscar nominations, airs this weekend featuring interstitials with the star of the show, Dick Van Dyke. Dick will tour the Disney vault, along with Bullseye, the Target dog, so viewers can get a behind-the-scenes peak at movie history.
You may not know this about us, but Mary Poppins is our favorite movie of all time. As kids, we would march around the living room singing “Sister Suffragette” and lull our dollies to sleep with “Stay Awake.” We’ve seen it countless number of times and still get sad at the end when the wind shifts and Mary Poppins flies away. And it’s probably fair to say the Bert the Chimney sweep/Dick Van Dyke was our first celebrity crush.
We had the distinct honor to interview Dick on behalf of the Archive of American Television in 2011 at an evening honoring Carl Reiner. That night Dick spoke about his other truly beloved character, Rob Petrie from The Dick Van Dyke Show. Not surprisingly, it’s one of our favorite TV shows of all time. Beginning to see the pattern?
Don’t miss ABC's broadcast of The Wonderful World of Disney' Presented by Target Brings You Mary Poppins on Saturday, December 12 at 8 PM EST/PST on ABC.
